Three Questions To Ask When Choosing A Daycare For Your Infant

Posted on

Having a newborn can be quite stressful because there are many new situations that you will encounter along the way. One important situation that will arise is the fact that you will need to find someone to take care of your child when you need to go back to work. Use the guide below to learn how to choose the right daycare for your infant.

Ask for Proof of Infant First Aid Training

Ask the director for proof of the classes that the staff took to learn proper first aid care for infants. You want to be sure that the person taking care of your baby can give him or her CPR or perform the Heimlich maneuver when needed. If someone has completed a training course, the training company will provide them with a certificate of completion.

Ask What the Child-to-Caregiver Ratio Is

Next, you need to ask the director what the child-to-caregiver ratio is for each room. You do not want a caregiver in the nursery taking care of numerous infants on their own. You want to be sure that the person taking care of your child is not taking care of more than one or two other children at the same time to ensure that your baby gets the attention and care that they need.

Ask What the Protocol for Illness Is

Ask what the protocol is for illness in the daycare, as well. Ask if they clean the entire nursery from top to bottom when a child becomes sick, or if they only clean the crib and bedding where that particular child sleeps. Also, ask if the daycare will alert other parents of an illness that their child may have been exposed to. You want to be sure that you know if your child has been exposed to an illness so you can look for symptoms of the illness and get him or her treatment as quickly as possible.

Once you know all of this information, you can make an informed decision about whether or not the daycare, like Cottonwood Montessori, is the right fit for your child. If you are still leery about sending your child to the daycare, ask if you can sit in the room for a few hours before leaving your child in the care of the caregivers. Seeing how they care for the infants will give you peace of mind that your child will be safe in their care.
